Florida Creatives

A collection of documents relating to the mission, rules?, projects, traditions and history of the Florida Creatives group.

FloridaCreatives.com is the best place to get information about upcoming events and past events, as well as what's going on with our members. Ryan has been interviewing people about once a month for a podcast (iTunes link) to help raise awareness about the activities of local creatives. Anyone is welcome to make new posts on the blog, or create a new design for the site.

A job posting community exists, as well as regional groups for Orlando, Brevard/East Coast and Jacksonville.

If you can't find a piece of information, we're not doing our jobs right. Please submit all requests for information to the Contact Form.

Florida

Use this wiki to post useful links for creative folks (and everyone else) living in different areas around the state. Wi-fi spots, useful websites, places of interest, how to get in touch with local media outlets for doing press releases, annual events, local resources, a business you own, artist profiles, or self-promotional links.

As of this posting, mostly the Orlando and Tampa pages are populated with content. The Orlando wiki has good examples of the kind of pages you could/should be adding. Some pages don't yet exist - feel free to add links and information as you see fit, and try to follow the structure laid out by other pages. Don't feel offended if your content is edited or moved - that's the point of this system.

Help documents are coming soon.

BATT

Bringing Arts and Technology Together

This group (and event) is really part of a larger movement inside Florida Creatives, to bring together two groups that may not always see themselves as peers. We're going to act as the connector between the computer/internet/open source geeks and the artists.

The immediate plans are to run two kinds of events: one semi-annual, and another that's more monthly.

BATT Unconference

The annual event will be a lot like BarCamp, unconference format, but focused on arts instead of being so open-ended.

BATT Community Helpdesk

The monthly event will be of the "community help desk" format, where the artists and technologists come to a specific place to try and get a specific problem solved, like "how do I get the photos from my digital camera to my website?" or "I need some help deciding how to make this look better", and then everyone helps each other. It's not free tech support, there are more rules than that. For a good reference, see this description by Advantage Labs. Their Lab Hours = Community Help Desk
