John Rife is one of the original founding members of Florida Creatives in Orlando, and now he joins us to talk about his adventures in blogging about local food, and his experience planning the first-ever Winter Park Harvest Festival. The festival will be held in Central Park on Nov 20th, just a few days before Thanksgiving. Local farmers and tons of others will have their wares on display. You can think local, grow, learn, taste, listen and play, with a "Farm to Table" dinner at the end.

Awesome Local Interviews by The Daily City

Since I have been thinking about recording some more episodes of the Florida Creatives Podcast, I was wondering if anyone else has been doing good local downloadable content. We have Radio Rickshaw and Front Porch Radio producing stuff, as well as CMF Public Media and the local WMFE and WUCF stations. Several years ago, Mark Baratelli of the popular Daily City blog produced a show called the Orlando Arts Podcast, but now he will just periodically post mp3 files and players on his site. This can make the content hard to find, so I have created a list.

Pecha Kucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creative people worldwide.

Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

Pecha Kucha is an opportunity to discover the hidden brilliance of your city...and now it's coming to Orlando!

DATE/TIME: Thursday, October 7, from 7 to 10 p.m.
ENTRY: $5 cash at the door. Beer and wine available.

Listen. Learn. Engage. Change Your World.

Into Coworking? Make stuff? Are you a writer? Looking for a space to hold events? Hoping to have a decent place to work, collaborate, and meet downtown? You should fill out this survey. urbanrethink

In March of 2010, after eight years as a community bookstore in downtown Orlando and Thornton Park, the Urban Think! Bookstore closed its doors, leaving as its legacy the Urban Think! Foundation. The Foundation believes that when creativity flourishes, the community benefits, and through its mission to enrich Orlando's cultural landscape the Foundation is working to re-think the bookstore space as a creative center serving the Orlando community. Please join us in helping shape the future of the former bookstore by filling out this short survey to assess how this new space might serve you.

This group is for talking about the future of News, new business models around Media, like blogging, podcasting, video, and other emerging mobile, streaming or downloadable content.

Our meeting last month allowed everyone to have "the floor" for 5 minutes, and there were a lot of common themes. If you have a particular topic you'd like to bring up, leave a comment on this event page.

Michael Poley is producing a Comedy Video night related to his project. If anyone would like to submit a video or help out with the event, check it out. It will be held on June 24th at the Avalon Gallery (formerly DMAC, AKA the Green Building).

Orlando has a very wide distribution of journalists, podcasters and bloggers, as well as the amateurs. What will happen if we get them all in the same room?
