This month's Happy Hour is sponsored by the Metro Orlando EDC, held at the offices of Voxeo, a real success story from Orlando's Technology Scene. They're using the opportunity to raise awareness for their #WhyOrlando campagin - just one of the ways they are making Central Florida more attractive to businesses looking to locate here.

Have you been to Deland lately? You know, Stetson, antiques, cool bars, great walking town? Did you know they had their first BarCampDeland last weekend? I ended up seeing more people we know from the Brevard Space Coast Creatives group there, although Chad who is a regular at our Happy Hours in Orlando made it too. It was a really great event, with the $6 lunch coupons at any of the great downtown lunch spots, and especially a few awesome talks from: a filmmaker who visited India, a pro-photo couple, a sound hacker, a graphics programmer and an inspired designer. There were lots of other great talks, but at some point Kathryn and I decided to kick back on the porch of DaVinci's with a beer and recap my recent trip to the NYC Maker Faire. I was very glad to have met the organizer of the affair, Ray Villalobos. Serious Kudos goes to Ray and his whole team for a number of reasons, but also because I don't think I've ever seen so many babies at a BarCamp. :)Another really awesome thing you missed recently was the Urban ReThink Broomstick Pony Derby. Please check out this awesome gallery from the Orlando Sentinel and video from the Orlando Weekly. This was one of the greatest displays of creativity, foolishness and poor athleticism I have ever been a part of. Can't wait until next year!
It's hard to believe we've been without our home at Crooked Bayou for almost two years now, though Hawker's, The Falcon and Gringos have been good to us. I got a tip from a fellow creative about a new cocktail bar called the Courtesy that's very near Gringos. He said the cocktails are fresh and exciting (they server beer and wine too, and make their own soda), and I figure if we get hungry then our favorite taco stand is just across Washington.
Happy Hour #71 at The Courtesy - Tweet it, share it, bring your cocktail snob friends!
The regular time and date: Monday, October 22nd, 6pm until 9-ish. Parking meters downtown are free after 6. Parking on Orange Ave is free after 7.

One Spark is the world's first crowdfunding festival where you can come and support inspiration in person and in real-time.
The fastest way for people to launch ideas is to have all of the resources they need in one place and at one time. One Spark is an event that brings those people (artists, technologists, scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and the public) together for 5 days. During One Spark 2013 each of these folks will share their prototypes, experiments and projects in a really cool way by using downtown Jacksonville as a platform. Any place can be a venue (parking lots, businesses, restaurants, parks, etc.) and anyone can enter as a creator.
