College
The students currently enrolled in Florida colleges and universities will be entering the workforce in the next couple of years, and you are very important to our group and the creative climate. If you want to start a Florida Creatives group at your school, this would be a good place to start that discussion.
BarCamp Orlando 2010
Location
Artists, trend-spotters, activists, geeks and performers from Orlando and all around the SouthEast will be flocking to Orlando for an annual event unlike any other in Central Florida. BarCamp is a conference with no keynote speaker, no pre-defined schedule and no admission fee. It sounds like a bunch of chaos, but in fact it's one of the most fun days you can participate in. It's very easy to be involved, speak your mind, meet likeminded folks, maybe get a job, or just hand out and listen to all the passionate conversations happening in and out of the rooms where sessions are held.
This ad-hoc day of sessions invites participants to control the programming by preparing a 20 minute talk on any creative topic and presenting it to other participants. A large board separated into time slots will be opened at 9AM. Those wishing to lead discussions should be present early to write the name of his or her session on the board first thing in the morning.

Florida Creatives Happy Hour #38
Location
Come join Orlando's longest-running art and tech happy hour for our first gathering of the new year! Lots of exciting things are happening in Central Florida, and people who are well-connected and passionate about the future can't afford to miss out on these tribal gatherings.
Whether you're a poet, an actor, a photographer, a producer, a marketer, a programmer, an entrepreneur or a combination of them all, you'll find some great conversation and new friends by attending, and coming back every month on the third Monday.
We also have a chapter in Melbourne that has been meeting for over a year now with great success. If you'd like to see events like this in your town, feel free to start one!
Crooked Bayou has some of the best food in downtown Orlando, and drink specials for people who show up in the first hour. Monday is also when they run a special on their wings - check them out. Of course, the traditional "hot tots" and fried pickles are always a favorite.
P.S. Please bring a camera and snap some photos! You'll want to show your friends what it was like.
Florida Creatives 3 Year Anniversary

In just a few days, Florida Creatives will have been a regular event in Orlando every month for 3 years. This is a cause for celebration. I hope you can all make it out to the festivities.
2010 is going to be a big year for Florida Creatives, with the Brevard circle turning 1 year old, and new circles starting in South Florida and Lakeland.
Come and meet some likeminded folks - people who are always learning, working to change the world, looking to create something new, or people who just like being social.
Thanks for 3 awesome years of your input, ideas, friendship and support. This group is reaching a new plateau, it is entirely due to our members, whom we ask little of, but who give us so much.
Admission is free, there is no sign-up form, there are no nametags, just come and be yourself, and the creatives will guide you from there!

Update: OpenID login as well as Facebook Connect are working again. Now I am going to send a comment to see if the notifications still go out.
In a few minutes, I will be disabling commenting and any new posts or edits. I don't want the content on the site to be inaccessible, but I am going to be upgrading the site software, so I don't want any changes to get lost in the process.

STUDENT UNION FREEZE

A group of people who appear from out of nowhere, to perfom predetermined actions, designed to amuse and confuse surrounding people. The group performs these actions for a short amount of time before quickly dispersing. Flash mobs are often organised through email and/or newsgroup postings.
I'm sure many of you have seen one form or another of it on youtube perhaps, sometimes in musical form. Here's your chance to partake in one!
The Arts is planning to do a flashmob in the form of a freeze. We are attempting to gather as many people as we can to freeze in the Union for five minutes.
Please get as many friends as you can to participate as well. It's strength in numbers. The more effective and humorous it will be.

Give Your Creative Projects a Kickstart
I heard about Kickstarter on a podcast interview with board member and contributor Andy Baio recently, and I am blogging about it as soon as I could. It's a way to get micro-investors for just about any project you would like to carry out, but can't afford to. Andy's project is to create an 8-bit tribute to Miles Davis called "Kind of Bloop".

BarCamp Orlando #3

BarCampOrlando is back and is going to be bigger and better than ever. The Orlando Scene has quickly proven it can put on one of the premier BarCamp events in the US, and quite possibly the world.
BarCampOrlando is a 1 day 'unconference' offering all attendees the opportunity to share their knowledge by giving short talks on ANY subject. This year we will have 3 different rooms to showcase the participants and sessions of different lengths to accommodate more content then you can shake your marshmallow stick at.
BarCamp by it's nature has no schedule, no keynote speaker, and no main topic of conversation - the participants decide the who, what, how, why and when - we just pick the where!
Please register for the event so we can plan accordingly!
P.S. BarCamp may still be looking for sponsors - any amount will be accepted. We have a "fill in the blank" sponsorship available for those who can't swing $100 or $300, as much as they might like to.
UCF Student DM Club Launches
I'm thrilled to announce a new student-led, digital media club at UCF. They had their first meeting this past Tuesday with about 30 people in attendance. Though most of the meetings will be students presenting their work or useful tutorials, they're actively looking for creative folks from industry to come talk about their own projects.
