On September 20-25 Rollins College will be hosting the Global Peace Film Festival

If you dont know what the Festival is all about here is some info from the GPFF website:

The Global Peace Film Festival was established to utilize the power of the motion picture to further the goal of peace on earth. With a mission to expand the definition of peace beyond anti-war, ideology, activism or specific causes, the Global Peace Film Festival films and events suggest a more personal message as reflected in the daily lives of individuals and communities the world over.

Florida Motion Picture & Television Association (FMPTA), Metro Orlando Chapter is hosting its First Annual 45-HR Short Film Project, June 24 to 26, 2011 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Two members from each production team will receive their line of dialog, character name, character job, and a prop and will “win” their genre during the 7pm 45-HR SFP kick off in the amphitheater at The Hilton Orlando/Altamonte Springs, 350 S. Northlake Blvd. Each team will have exactly 45 hours to write, shoot, edit and produce a three to seven minute short film. Submission drop off and no-host celebration is 4pm on Sunday at the Orlando Ale House – Altamonte Springs.

FSU FIlm Program's Digital Domain Institute in West Palm Beach

A few months ago, there was a lot of fanfare about Digital Domain moving to Port St Lucie on the East Coast - between Orlando and South Florida. The urban legend is one of the owners grew up in Florida... don't fact-check me on that. Now the former mayor of West Palm Beach has worked a deal with Digital Domain and FSU's much-sought-after film school to open a campus down there.

Akira may be the most well known Japanese animation imported to the US. Even after 23 years its animation is striking and it has an extraordinary score from 芸能山城組 (Geinō Yamashirogumi) to match. Most of us have only seen Akira dubbed in English so we plan to show the film in its original Japanese with subtitles.
