ORLANDO, FL - Bold Hype, gallery and shop, proudly introduces Brooklyn artist Rafael Santiago to Orlando and the world (the exhibition is being advertised in national art and culture magazine Juxtapoz and will be viewable online). The solo show entitled "SMOKE N ACES" is exhibiting from January 10th, 2009 till February 28th, 2009 and will feature Rafael's mesmerizing style applied to 70's icons, muscle cars, and portraits of "tough guys" like Steve McQueen, Barry Newman, and Charles Bronson. Rafael Santiago works mostly with ink and wax on paper creating a fresh surreal style that could best be described as a psychedelic blend of solemnity and humor. Rafael Santiago grew up in Brooklyn, NY, but has many relatives that reside in the Central Florida area. Rafael Santiago will be present at the opening reception to meet with guests and media representatives. This is the first solo show for the Bold Hype gallery and is curated by Eric Althin. The 1970's themed opening reception is on January 10th, 6pm - 11pm. It will be at Bold Hype, 1844 East Winter Park Road, Orlando, FL 32803. To mark this historic occasion, the Society is partnering with the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens and Crealdé School of Art to develop an exhibition of photography that captures the spirit of the Bach Festival Society, its Choir and Orchestra, Conductor Dr. John Sinclair, and the interior and exterior of the historic Knowles Memorial Chapel on the Rollins College Campus. Artists selected through a juried process led by Peter Schreyer, Executive Director of the Crealdé School of Art, will have an opportunity to photograph during Bach Festival rehearsals in 2009. Final images will be used to promote the 75th Annual Bach Festival in 2010 and will be installed in an exhibition at the Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens opening in February 2010. Photographers must submit up to 5 samples of their work on disk in .jpg format of 300 dpi or 8" x 10" prints to: The Bach Festival Society, Attn: Photography, 1000 Holt Ave. #2763, Winter Park, FL 32789 The deadline for consideration is January 23, 2009.
