Orlando had its first TEDx on November 13th, 2010 at the Orlando Science Center. Video from the TEDxOrlando talks have started to be released on YouTube recently.
Here is a video from Marc Sardy titled Educating for Peace through the Global Peace Film Festival:
Marc Sardy is passionate about educating for peace. Following formative experiences in the Australian outback, the UK, Malaysia, France, and China, he became convinced that cinema can be a powerful tool for inspiring people and motivating them to come together. Since 2005, he's worked with Orlando's Global Peace Festival in order to realize this vision. Festival programming focuses on diversity, and films are selected for the potential they have to increase understanding, awareness, appreciation and action -- prerequisites for a peaceful world.
People often credit their ideas to individual "Eureka!" moments. But Steven Johnson shows how history tells a different story. His fascinating tour takes us from the "liquid networks" of London's coffee houses to Charles Darwin's long, slow hunch to today's high-velocity web.
I found this amazing video in Portuguese with English subtitles from a TEDx event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Definitely worth checking out, and reading through it.
At TEDU 2009, Erik Hersman presents the remarkable story of Ushahidi, a GoogleMap mashup that allowed Kenyans to report and track violence via cell phone texts following the 2008 elections, and has evolved to continue saving lives in other countries.
Blogger (AfriGadget, WhiteAfrican), geek and power networker Erik Hersman is a key member of the African blog revolution. As a builder of Ushahidi, he helps expand the power of everyday people to share vital news via text.
This just looks like a lot of fun. Who's down for some Battledecks? I think this has even been brought up at past FL Creatives events.
For anyone that knows about TED, I would like to look into forming a small committee of like minded people that would bring TED as a bi-monthly conference to Brevard County and Florida.
You can look more at it here at www.ted.com.
For anyone that doesn't know TED, I would suggest you look into it. It is a great experience and I would love to bring this kind of innovation to Brevard and Florida.
Right now I am looking for 2 or 3 well connected individuals that know about TED and what it does. I would be willing to head up the agenda and what not. I just need to see if the speakers could be filled for the first 2 conferences.
