First time here?

Every month, a group that samples Orlando's forward-thinkers, inventors, entrepreneurs and future front-page makers gets together to chat and catch up over some cajun food and drink downtown at the Crooked Bayou on Central Ave and Magnolia. We get started at 6PM and go until 9PM or later most months.

Florida Creatives Happy Hours are the third Monday of the month in Orlando - the next meeting will be this Monday, November 17th.

A common question on this site is "Please turn off these email notifications!"

Here's how to do it for yourself:

Log in to your account:

i.e.

What does FloridaCreatives.com need?

We have had quite a few new registrations on the site recently, and therefore I'm sure a lot of confused folks -- there is a lot that can be done on this website, but it doesn't all jump out at a new user.

How can we communicate the following:

  • What is Florida Creatives all about?
  • What can you find on this site?
  • What can you find on other sites around the internet?
  • How can you contribute to this site, and why would you want to?
  • When is the next event, not just for our group, but all the groups listed here.

Starting Florida Creatives in your City

It's really simple.

  1. Before you start your own group, ask around and do some web searches to see if there are similar groups, or people who seem like they might know about a group in town.
  2. Create a group on this site if one doesn't exist. If one does exist, it may just be a placeholder. The resources here are free, and we have very open policies. If the group does exist, use the Contact tab on the group home page to get in touch with the person who created it.
  3. Pick a time and a place to have a meeting or Happy Hour in your city.

About

Florida Creatives is a place, both physically and virtually, for forming relationships and facilitating discussion. People of all disciplines and all levels of experience are invited to come together to enrich their creative experience, learn from each other, and gain inspiration in a social environment. The immediate benefits of such a group are often collaboration, employment opportunities and creative partnerships, with fringe benefits being innumerable. One purpose of the Florida Creatives website is to highlight some of those relationships and partnerships through blogging and podcasting, while also providing an online discussion place in between meetings.

Creating New Groups

Really simply:

  1. Go to http://floridacreatives.com/node/add/group_home_page
  2. Fill in a short, meaningful name
  3. The description field will appear in the groups directory
  4. Founding Date is optional
  5. Meeting time can be something like "Third Mondays, 7pm"
  6. The next box is for your mission statement or an extended description
  7. You can set the membership type - I recommend "Open" or "Moderated"
  8. Once people are a member of your group, they can post any blogs, wiki pages, forum posts, events to the group
  9. You can choose whether your group shows up on the site-wide registration form.

Adding Wiki Pages

Really simply:

  1. Register
  2. Go to node/add/book (book is Drupal's wiki module)
  3. Enter a meaningful, short title - one or two words is best
  4. Select a parent - this page's parent is "Help". Others include "Florida", "Guides", "Florida Creatives", etc.
  5. Wiki pages use MediaWiki Syntax
  6. Add you page to a group?
  7. Please don't forget to check the "Public" box
