Akira may be the most well known Japanese animation imported to the US. Even after 23 years its animation is striking and it has an extraordinary score from 芸能山城組 (Geinō Yamashirogumi) to match. Most of us have only seen Akira dubbed in English so we plan to show the film in its original Japanese with subtitles.
If you are not familiar with this piece of cinematic history here is the plot summary:

Yay! We are currently working with A Comic Shop in Orlando to set up this monthly movie screening night in The Geek Easy, their awesome geek lounge in the back of the shop. I have set up an event page so please RSVP as soon as possible so I can get an accurate head count.
This month’s movie is going to be Sex and Fury (不良姐御伝 猪の鹿お蝶). It is a mature film so if you are sensitive about sexual themes and violence this isn’t the film for you.

On the first opening night of professional basketball at Amway Center (originally known as the Orlando Events Center), award-winning logophile Brian Feldman will read the new NBA rule book to fans, outside, across from the Orlando Magic Team Shop presented by adidas, in the manner of a street preacher.
If you’re gonna argue with the refs this season, you gotta know the rules.
This project is not sanctioned, endorsed or sponsored by the National Basketball Association, NBA Media Ventures, LLC, Orlando Magic, Amway Corp., or the City of Orlando.
“Are you ready for some theater?!”

Pecha Kucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creative people worldwide.
Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.
Pecha Kucha is an opportunity to discover the hidden brilliance of your city...and now it's coming to Orlando!
DATE/TIME: Thursday, October 7, from 7 to 10 p.m.
ENTRY: $5 cash at the door. Beer and wine available.

I heard about Kickstarter on a podcast interview with board member and contributor Andy Baio recently, and I am blogging about it as soon as I could. It's a way to get micro-investors for just about any project you would like to carry out, but can't afford to. Andy's project is to create an 8-bit tribute to Miles Davis called "Kind of Bloop".
