Theatre Pot Luck

Feast

Location

The Abbey
100 S. Eola Drive
Orlando, FL 32801
Jul 24 2011 10:17p

Several years ago, the theatre community started hosting these dinners in a different venue on a regular rotating schedule. The following is taken from a post by local theatre blogger Elizabeth Maupin, calling to action for the next event:

Has it been almost a year since the last theater-community potluck? Yes, it has, and it’s well past time for us to get together one again.

So put on your high-heeled sneakers, bring something to eat and join us at 7:30 p.m. Sunday July 24 at the Abbey, the new theater space in the Sanctuary condo building at 100 S. Eola Drive, just one block south of Lake Eola.

Urban ReThink - Virgin Olive Market

Orlando, FL 32801
Community or Meetup:
Jun 17 2011 8:00a - 11:00a

Likemind is before work (8AM), it happens downtown, and everyone is welcome. Bring a few friends, get some coffee, and tell us what's on your mind.

We've been having some healthy turnout in the past few months. If you're getting something out of this event, please invite some friends.

Since Urban ReThink is open now, and the Virgin Olive Market is serving coffee and food, let's meet up in Thornton Park. Street parking is abundant, so I don't want to hear any parking complaints. Also, meeting in downtown is part of the spirit of this event.
Likemind Orlando
Groups in 60+ other cities all over the world will be getting together for conversations with their community - sure, they may not have 2+ years of these events behind them, but we do.

More than 3 years ago, I heard about these two marketing guys / geeks from New York who had started an event they held on Friday mornings for coffee and conversation. The first few were just the two of them, but as they invited people and the word got out, it grew until it started getting on the radar all over the world. Now Likemind happens in scores of cities on every continent, and Orlando has been on that list almost since the beginning.

FLCreatives "Nomads" Happy Hour at Gringos Locos

Florida Creatives Happy Hour

Location

Gringos Locos
20 E Washington St
Orlando, FL 32801
Phone: 407-841-5626
Community or Meetup:
Jun 28 2011 6:00p - 9:00p

NOTE: this event is on a TUESDAY.

Gringos Locos is a fairly new local restaurant that has captured the hearts and palettes of foodies, late-night-clubbers, raggae fans and anyone who likes really good tacos. Several members were lobbying to hold happy hour here, and now that they serve beer in bottles the final missing ingredient has fallen into place.

Some day soon will be the last Nomads event, then we will try to decide on a regular spot.

Want a blog? Have a blog? Want to make a better blog?

Make plans now to attend the Central Florida Blogger Conference. It is perfect for beginning bloggers and seasoned pros. Whether you blog as a hobby, for your business or as a public relations professional, you’ll be sure to learn new strategies to build your brand, influence in your community, and make new friends.

And bring your computer along, as wi-fi is available campus-wide!

In the Morning

Learn specific steps to build a better blog, regardless if you are an old pro or just starting out. Listen to bloggers who have “been there, done that” and have discovered the best practices for blogging in a variety of fields: fitbloggers, fashion bloggers, foodies, travel bloggers, etc. Generate more page views, bring down your bounce rate, raise your Google page rank, and become an influencer in social media. If all that sounds too technical, we have a sessions for beginner bloggers that will translate it all for you too!
In the Afternoon

Discover tips to publicize your blog. Learn how to navigate the world of Twitter and Facebook and make them work for you. Gain more readers and name recognition through “check ins” and maybe even go viral on Youtube. Learn how to monetize your blog through banner ads, affiliate networks, partnerships with local businesses, selling products/services and more.
In the Evening

Meet and greet, mix and mingle at the Social Mixer at Enzian Bar. Here’s your chance to not only network with fellow bloggers (maybe find a mentor?) but to also connect with the PR and Marketing professionals who will be there mingling. They are there to meet YOU and learn how to get their clients on to your blog!

See the complete Agenda here.

FLCreatives "Nomads" Happy Hour at Orlando Fringe, Loch Haven Park

Florida Creatives Happy Hour

Location

Orlando Fringe, Loch Haven Park
900 E Princeton St On the Green Lawn of Fabulousness
Orlando, FL 32803
Community or Meetup:
May 24 2011 6:00p - 9:00p

NOTE: this event is on a TUESDAY. We are moving away from Mondays.

This month marks the 20th anniversary of the Orlando Fringe Festival. Their tagline is "12 days of theatre, art, music, dance and madness". Trust me when I say that this is the premier cultural event in Orlando. The beers are available for a donation to the non-profit festival, and there are lots of food vendors set up in the park. After you get some nosh and socialize, grab a Fringe button and a ticket to a show and go check out some original plays, shows that have appeared off-Broadway, or some of the more unconventional performances. There is something for everyone at this festival.

Florida Creatives has been using the Infamous Fringe Beer Tent as a backdrop for our meetups since the beginning. Last year we even had a Pecha Kucha style slideshow event. Next month, June will be the last Nomads event, then we will try to decide on a regular spot.

Orlando, FL 32801

What is it? Central Florida has several thriving, yet disjointed communities. There are groups of software developers, filmmakers, designers, entrepreneurs and an array of other creative individuals. We're inviting the leaders and members of these communities to join us for a brainstorming meetup on how to build an even stronger, more vibrant community of DOERS. This is a FREE EVENT and open to any and all who would like to participate in building a better community. Why? We have all of the pieces and parts of a strong and vibrant tech & creative community, but somehow we're not quite living up to our full potential.

Rethinking Community Data, Gov 2.0, and Aggregation

Open Data

Location

Urban ReThink
625 E Central Blvd
Orlando, FL 32801
May 16 2011 11:30a - 1:00p

Our first meetup was held at Urban ReThink on April 10th, 2011, a week after BarCampOrlando.

The idea here is to get together people who are interested in building mashups, and ultimately getting local people to share the kinds of data that will make life in Central Florida more interesting - these people could be government entities, nonprofits, companies, food truck owners, bloggers, or just average Joes and Janes.

We currently have an iCal aggregator set up with Elm City. If you know of iCal feeds that are about Orlando, please let use know, and Steve will add them to the Delicous account.
