Use this wiki to post useful links for creative folks (and everyone else) living in different areas around the state. Wi-fi spots, useful websites, places of interest, how to get in touch with local media outlets for doing press releases, annual events, local resources, a business you own, artist profiles, or self-promotional links.
As of this posting, mostly the Orlando and Tampa pages are populated with content. The Orlando wiki has good examples of the kind of pages you could/should be adding. Some pages don't yet exist - feel free to add links and information as you see fit, and try to follow the structure laid out by other pages. Don't feel offended if your content is edited or moved - that's the point of this system.
Help documents are coming soon.
This is our micro-wiki to help coordinate and keep us all up to speed with Brevard tech, creative, and media stuff.
We have a group home page which has a blog, event manager, and other goodies which any member can post entries to, or comment there upon. That's a great place to put forth an idea or event notices to see what the community thinks.
An alphabetical list of Brevard companies and freelancers represented by one or more members. Add yours after you join. Please only list companies, firms, for-profit projects, and freelance services here. You can link to your personal blog and hobby projects on your member page.
The best way to post about new meetups is to create a new Community or Meetup post.
Feel Free to add more categories and groups/links to this list as you see fit, that's why we have a wiki. If groups meet on consistent dates and locations (i.e. third Mondays @ Crooked Bayou, Central Ave downtown), specify what you can.

The Brevard East Coast Creatives is a mashup of all sorts of creative, design, and code types of people whose business is working with businesses to help them communicate and brand themselves on the web or in print.
We welcome liberal hippies and young conservatives alike. We welcome geeky code monkeys as well as artsy graphic designers. We welcome suit-and-tie marketing experts as well as hip trendy brand identity creators. We welcome firms, employees of companies, and freelancers alike.
If you are community-minded and want to share ideas, experiences, meet the people working all around you in Brevard, then come hang out. No pressure. No forced presentations. No need to talk at all. Just listen.
Get out of the house, the apartment, or the cubicle and come learn something new, share something crazy going on with a client, or meet someone who might be able to lend a helping hand (although probably not).
RAnDOM, the Rich ApplicatioN Developers of Melbourne, is a group established to bring a conduit to the Brevard county area for developers and enthusiasts interested in the area of rich internet applications. The goal of the group is cover topics related to new and emerging technologies in the feild of web application development such as AJAX, Flex, Silverlight, and anything else that enters into the mix over time. In an attempt to take a different approach to user group meetings, the focus of each meeting is intended to be on cooperative programming. Through the use of sample code, our members will hopefully be guided to success through their implementations. As the group grows, we may grow and begin giving presentations, but who knows.
Alphabetized listing of free wi-fi spots in Brevard. Please link to their website if they have one. Edit and make minor reviews here. Please follow format if possible. Please only post places which you have personally experienced. Many of the "free wi-fi" lists on the internet are wrong. If anyone wants to, they can start a separate list below of subscription wi-fi spots.

Conversation Cafés are sponsored by the Youth For a New World, a non-profit educational and charitable organization that seeks to promote awareness, caring and action. They strengthen connection and compassion by linking youth through schools and other organizations in joint study and projects.
Vicki Robin, Co-founder of Conversation Cafés , has fostered the Conversation Café Initiative through public speaking, organizing, hosting Cafés, educating hosts, writing, and general cajoling and pleading. She is co-author with Joe Dominguez of Your Money or Your Life, an international best seller. That book continues to help people free up their time from the work-and-spend treadmill. Conversation Cafés help people investigate what this newly acquired free time might really be for. Since 9/11, Vicki has worked with the Café movement to help create social spaces where empowered citizenship might truly show up.
"In reflecting on the next steps I might apply myself to beyond promoting a shift in personal consumption patterns, I realized that my core message really wasn't 'Spend less' but was 'Reflect on what you spend in light of your values.' The Conversation Café project addresses the need to increase social intelligence, to build social capital and generate the social engagement so we can actually HAVE a wise democracy. I am doing this by building a network of Cafés where people can have weekly drop-in dialogues about the key inner and outer issues of our times.
"These Conversation Cafés are about free speech. Not as something that can be taken away in an era of repression, but as something one strengthens through self expression in the presence of those who do not agree. Free speech is our birthright. Repressive societies can change the consequences of speaking, but they do not govern our souls.
"I envision a culture of conversation — a culture where people talk freely — without fear or taboos — with friends and strangers alike. I once asked a Dane how Denmark had resisted the pressures of globalization. He said two words: study circles. Most Danes throughout their adult lives have the habit of conversation about things that matter in small groups.
"We can do that here. In cafés. In Britain in the 1700s the government shut down the cafés where people met to discuss politics because they were sites of revolutionary thinking. Here, we get our news from the TV, retreat into private sub-cultures through online chats and interact only with people who see the world as we do. This is a formula for weakening society enough to allow forces of repression to take over. Conversation Cafés are an attempt to reverse the trend."

AIGA Jacksonville was founded in January 1989. At the time, twenty people signed a petition to form a local AIGA chapter called “The North Florida Chapter of AIGA.” Twenty-one years later, AIGA Jacksonville boasts over 200 members – graphics designers, interactive designers, illustrators, copywriters, educators and design students, as well as professionals in related fields such as printing, prepress and photography – with goals of doubling membership within a few years as well as increasing activity and awareness. AIGA Jacksonville hosts a variety of programs throughout the year which emphasize both professional and educational development. Some events promote excellence in design, but all AIGA events offer both students and professionals a prime opportunity to network. Ultimately, AIGA Jacksonville strives to position Jacksonville as a leader in the field of design.
AIGA has a long, storied history, beginning with its creation in 1914. Over its many decades of existence, AIGA has seen professional design evolve from its earliest roots in graphic arts to an amazingly diverse selection of more specialized practices.
AIGA now represents more than 22,000 designers through national activities and local programs developed by 62 chapters and 240 student groups.

We are in the process of putting together a creative meetup for ALL South Florida creatives to show their face. We are calling it a creative summit, because we know just as much as you do that it's going to be like climbing F-ing Everest to get us creative types to show up.
It's not a user group, it's not an unconference, it's not a geek dinner, it's not a meetup or a networking event. Yet, people who enjoy these types of events will find a home at our table.
The best way I can tie all these folks together is with the string of Innovation - that magic pixie dust that inspires us when we see it in others, rewards us when we achieve it ourselves, and pat our peers on the back when they can do it without bragging.
Indeed, whether they be engineers, entrepreneurs, artists, actors, writers, or anyone else, the spark of invention brings us all to the marketplace, and has kept us coming back for over 2 years.

The owner of a downtown office building is working with one of his tenants to turn an entire floor of the Angebuilt building into a coworking space. I'm not sure of the size, but if I had to guess I'd say it's close to 10,000 sq ft. There will be some ad-hoc space, conference space, and finally private offices available. They are still working on official numbers for rates and plans, which I think is one of the reasons for the open house.
I have seen the space, it is huge and versatile and I know the time is overdue for this space to open. I couldn't think of a better place - it is right in the middle of downtown, walking distance to everywhere, and the same building where we held our April 2008 BarCamp Orlando. Also upstairs is the current location of the UCF Downtown Technology Incubator, which helps tech startups get cheap office space downtown, and access to some other useful services.
There's also an idea that's "coworking without the office" called Jelly started in NYC by a couple of dudes who've gotten some press. It seems to me their philosphy is that one doesn't need to pay in order to have a coworking environment. Also, I think the laws in NYC about working together in the same space are different than most places, so having "work parties" was a way to get around legal problems.

The third Thursday of every month, thousands of visitors converge in the core of the Downtown Arts District for the 3rd Thursday Gallery Hop. They come to celebrate art and partake in an evening of sights, sounds, food, shopping, and cosmopolitan fun.
Though many shops are open earlier, the Gallery Hop officially starts at 6:00 p.m. and runs to 9:00 p.m. with restaurants and bars staying open considerably later.
On a typical Hop, series of galleries and non-traditional art venues (think restaurants, boutiques, and salons) spotlight the best of established and emerging Orlando-based artists as well as the works of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists. Street artists and performers settle into the many nooks of the District to entertain the throngs of Downtown fanatics. Up-and-coming bands, dance troupes, even mimes and stage characters add to the unforgettable experience. Expect the unexpected as each month is uniquely an experience in art and culture.

cfgeeks is collection of like-minded geeks, technology, computer, sci-fi, electronic and radio hobbyists, enthusiasts and professionals who gather to socialize and lean new things and meet new geeks. Although there are no boundaries and no "standard geek" many cfgeeks are ham radio operators, Electronic Engineers, computer programmers and unix and software enthusiasts.
cfgeeks has no regular meetings, no dues, no membership list and in fact is not really organized in any particular way. We like to think of it as the "anti-meeting". cfgeeks exists mainly as the core mailing list and the occasional geek gatherings referred to as "lunchp"s. The "-p" coming from an old MIT lisp way of asking a question in one word (other common forms of lunchps come as dinnerp's, moviep's and skycraftp's). Anyone can start a gathering by sending an email to the core and lunchp mailings lists. The lunchp list exists for those who just want the announcements and not the daily discussions on the core list. As for the mailing lists more information can be found on our mail server: mail.cfgeeks.org. We host several different kinds of mailing lists such as the Stockgeeks list and the lunchp list for announcements and of course the "core" list: cfgeeks.
Some cfgeeks are also Road Geeks, Rail Geeks and Rail Fans.
They also tend to hang out on irc: irc.freenode.net on #cfgeeks or #golug for late night discussions or coordination activities. They can also be found on ham radio on various Orlando area repeaters.
There is plenty to enjoy with cfgeeks, welcome, join the core mailing list and we hope to see you soon at the next lunchp!
Remember we are all geeks now.

Our organization has been established so that entry and membership into our local club can be as easy and affordable as possible. There are no dues payable to the local chapter. Our regular events are paid for through fees specific to that event and sponsorships.
Our local chapter here in Southwest Florida is affiliated with the national Social Media Club, a rapidly growing, global professional association with chapters such as ours around the U.S. and around the world. We also network closely with other chapters in Florida in effort to share the best practices and ideas and to build business relationships across the state.
