Social data is exploding and scientists, like Hilary, are gaining new insights into human behavior. But how can we use this data to create something meaningful? How can all of us - scientists, developers, artists, and other innovators - work together to build tools or products that make the world more productive, interesting and beautiful?
Join 501c3 Urban ReThink for an inspirational day with a leading creative mind. May 6th, 2012 at 1:30pm at Urban ReThink, 625 E Central Blvd. There will be a special luncheon at noon before the talk for sponsors of the event. See Urban ReThink for sponsor opportunities.
Watch these awesome videos:
Hilary Mason is a computer scientist with a background in machine learning, data mining, and web applications. She is the scientist at Bit.ly, where she learns things from vast amounts of data. She is widely published and regularly speaks at academic and industry conferences, and recently realized her dream of delivering a talk on algorithms while drinking a dry ice martini. She is an enthusiastic developer and often releases code on her personal site, www.hilarymason.com. She has discovered two new species, loves to bake cookies, and asks way too many questions.
Urban ReThink is a creative and collaborative hub located in Orlando's historic Thornton Park. By day, enterprising professionals in diverse fields from the arts to technology work here. By night and on weekends, we welcome the community with a “What will I discover today?” assortment of talks, workshops, and gatherings. We are part of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Urban Think! Foundation which supports local educational, creative, and cultural opportunities.

I had the opportunity to see
I had the opportunity to see Ms. Mason speak while a participant in Betaspring last summer and enjoyed going over data analysis and reporting possibilities for the app I was working on with her after. She is a great lady, very smart and very nice, and her talk and suggestions were enlightening. If you can make this event I'd suggest it.
